Birmingham Mayor William Bell released the following statement on the shooting:

"We are deeply saddened by today's events and offer our condolences to the families and employees impacted by today's tragedy. Chief Roper and the BPD have our full support as we investigate and get answers for all involved."

ABC 33/40 reporter Honora Gathings says UPS employees are returning to the facility in Birmingham where three people were found dead in a shooting this morning. Update 11:30 a.m. A St. Clair County Schools spokesperson tells ABC 33/40 that Springville Elementary and Springville Middle schools were placed on lockdown temporarily during the fatal shooting at a UPS facility in Birmingham. The lockdown, which lasted 30 minutes, was in effect due to law enforcement receiving an anonymous tip that the suspected shooter may have had children in each of the schools. Students at the schools were never in any danger, according to officials, and the lockdown was issued for precautionary measures.{} Click here for full coverage of the shooting.Update 10:45 a.m.According to a UAB Hospital spokesperson, one victim injured in the shooting at a UPS facility in Birmingham was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Roper said the suspected gunman and two other victims were found deceased inside the facility in the 4600 block of Inglenook Lane. The suspect was found wearing his UPS uniform. Police haven't released the identities of the victims or suspect. ----BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Birmingham police have confirmed an active shooting situation with victims at the UPS Customer Care Center in the 4600 block of Inglenook Lane. The shooting happened shortly after 9 a.m. at the facility near the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
