BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham's mayor says he wants the city council to look into the city's motorcycle clubs after a deadly shooting.
At least 40 rounds were fired during a gun battle outside the Showstoppers Motorcycle Club that killed two men and wounded two others Sunday night.
Birmingham Mayor William Bell says he wants the council's public safety committee to explore the issue. Councilman Stephen Hoyt, who heads the public safety committee, said the group will look into biker clubs and possible regulations.
WBRC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1oCERF0) that the issue came up at a council meeting this week, after a spate of violence that left six people dead within five days.
Hoyt said he believes the city can take other steps to increase safety, such as making sure that neighborhoods have adequate lighting.
