PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama teenager accused of plotting to attack classmates with homemade explosives has been sentenced to two years on supervised probation followed by three years in prison.

Circuit Judge Al Johnson in Phenix City ordered the reverse split sentence Friday for 19-year-old Derek Shrout of Fort Mitchell. He pleaded guilty in April to first-degree attempted assault.

Shrout was arrested in January 2013 when he was 17. The arrest came after a teacher found a notebook that authorities say contained plans to use explosives to attack students at Russell County High School.

Assistant District Attorney Jamie Graham says the judge will review Shrout's case at the end of the two years on probation. Then he could decide to switch the prison term to probation. The judge also limited Shrout's computer use.
