What was meant to be a regular traffic stop ended in a chase Tuesday night.

It all started in Jefferson County near the intersection of Sweeny Hollow Road and Center Point Road. A deputy attempted to pull over a 2001 Ford F-150 just after 9:30 p.m. when the driver sped off. The deputy continued to pursue the driver, and during the chase found out the truck had been reported stolen. The chase continued onto Interstate 59 South, to Tallapoosa Street then to Highway 79 North. When the chase entered Blount County, deputies set up spike strips, ending the chase. The driver was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The suspect, 41 year old Joseph Poe, III, of Tarrant, is charged with Receiving Stolen Property 1st Degree, Attempting to Elude, Reckless Endangerment, Receiving Stolen Property 3rd Degree and Resisting Arrest. He is being held without bond.

Birmingham Police, Tarrant Police and the Blount County Sheriff's Office assisted Jefferson County at various points during the chase.
