GADSDEN - AL -

Auburn won a big in-state recruiting battle.

Tyler Carr, 6-foot-5 and 310-pound offensive lineman from Southside-Gadsden, verbally committed to Auburn over offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and a host of other SEC schools.

"They told me that I could come in and get some early playing time," Carr said. "I know they've talked to me several times about that but I'm not 100 percent sure. Everything you have to work for in life, so I just want to get down there and work and see where it takes me."

Carr is rated the No. 7 offensive tackle recruit in the nation according to Rivals.com. He didn't allow a sack last season as Southside-Gadsden advanced to the semifinals of the Class 5A playoffs.

Carr plans to graduate from high school in December so he can enroll in Auburn early and be eligible for next year's spring practice.
