UPDATE: Steven Earl Owens was taken into custody on three counts of Attempted murder. Owens was reported to be armed when he encountered Alabama Power security officers stationed at the Wilsonville Steam Plant. The Alabama Power Security officers apprehended and disarmed Owens after he was encountered on the property of the steam plant.

UPDATE:Sheriff’s deputies, with the assistance of the Alabama Department of Corrections canine search teams, have turned over search efforts to the United States Marshal’s Task Force. Law enforcement will remain in the area to assist the Marshal’s Task Force as the need arises. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office asks that Wilsonville residents and commuters remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to 911

UPDATE: All major roadways in the Wilsonville area have been cleared and are now open.  The search is still active, so you can continue to expect a law enforcement presence in the area.  The Sheriff's Office encourages residents and commuters in Wilsonville to avoid travel if possible .UPDATE-  Calera and Harpersville Police Department have joined the search for an armed and dangerous suspect out in Shelby County. Bibb County Sheriff's office are using canines to track down Steven Owens.

Police can not provide a mug shot until they have the suspect in hand. Officials say Owens has no digital footprint.
Police are searching for Steven Earl Owens, 24. He is a white male around 5'10" tall. He has brown hair and green eyes and a goatee.

Shelby County 911 received an emergency call reporting a domestic dispute. Sheriff's deputies responding to the area attempted to a stop a vehicle around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night. They believed the car was connected to the incident. That car led police on a pursuit.

During the chase, Owens vehicle damaged a patrol unit. Police also report the suspect fired shots from a handgun at pursuing officers.

His vehicle was stopped at 12:30 Monday morning when police used a tire deflation device.

Wilsonville residents can expect law enforcement activity in the area of Highway 25, County Road 61, Mallory Road, and Avery Drive.

Investigators consider Owens armed and dangerous.
