Alabama pitcher Justin Kamplain signs with NY Yankees

Justin Kamplain is passing up his final year of college baseball for the major leagues.

Alabama's left-handed pitcher signed his contract with the New York Yankees. He will begin his pro career with the Staten Island (NY) Yankees of the New York-Penn League.

Kamplain was picked by the Yankees in the 18th round in his months First-Year Major League Baseball Draft.

The former Walker High School star was 7-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 15 starts last season. He finishes his Alabama career with a 9-7 record and a 3.64 ERA in 207.2 innings pitched over three seasons.

Former Alabama pitcher Spencer Turnbull (2nd round, Detroit Tigers) and outfielder Ben Moore (8th round, Boston Red Sox) have signed professional contracts as well.

Left-handed pitcher Jon Keller will reportedly undergo arm surgery and miss the entire 2015 season so Alabama must replace it's three most experienced starting pitchers next year.
