World Cup Spikes TU Soccer Camp Attendance

Posted: Updated:

The University of Tulsa has hosted summer soccer camps for more than 30 years, but this year is different.

"For the first time we actually had to shut registration down about a month ago," TU men's head coach Tom McIntosh said. "We just had to stop taking registrations because it was too full and it became unmanageable for us from a coaching standpoint. So, we actually had to shut it down."

This week's camp is for ages 6 to 13, with half and full-day options, who are still learning the fundamentals.

"This is a great camp for young kids," McIntosh said. "This week is for kids who are really starting out in soccer, and want to enjoy playing the sport for a very long time.

"We are trying to get across to them that they can learn, but they can also have a really good time."

Coaches and players from surrounding universities and high schools are on staff to help coach the 400 campers.
