BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Police have charged a Birmingham man with murder after he allegedly shot and killed his wife at her job near Liberty Park Friday afternoon.

James Davis, 50, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $75,000 bond, charged in connection with the "deliberate" shooting death of his wife, 55-year-old Stephanie Grigsby-Davis, who was pronounced dead in her office on the campus of Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health Center.

The suspect, who was captured along Montclair Road by Irondale police not long after the shooting, reportedly shot his wife several times before fleeing the scene by way of a carjacking. According to CEO Lee Yount, Glenwood's clients were never in any danger, an opinion shared by investigators, who said the gunman was targeting his wife and his wife only in the shooting.

"Our clients were never in danger," Yount said in a release. "The campus went on lock down for safety reasons until the police gave the all clear message."

Yount said Glenwood is shocked and saddened by the tragedy and the loss of Grigsby-Davis, who had worked for the autism center's auxiliary department for over 15 years.

"She was kind, compassionate and helpful everyone," Yount said.
