MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Public Service Commissioner Terry Dunn has been forced into a runoff with former Greene County Commission Chairman Chip Beeker for the Republican nomination for Place 2 on the utility regulation board.

With 89 percent of precincts reporting, Beeker had 39 percent of the vote to Dunn's 32 percent, according to unofficial returns. The runoff will be held July 15.

Dunn drew pushback last year when he unsuccessfully sought formal hearings on the rates charged by Alabama Power and natural gas companies.

Alabama Minority GOP chairman Phillip Brown received 16 percent of the vote and media company owner Jonathan Barbee received 13 percent.

All three of Dunn's opponents disagreed with his push for formal rate hearings.

There is no Democrat running in November.
