Posted: Updated:
This is the first year Alabama will require voters to have a valid photo ID before casting their ballot. The primaries are June 3.
You can obtain a Voter ID at any County Board of Registrar's Office or the Secretary of State's Office. You must be a registered voter to obtain a free ID.

Valid photo ID's include:
-Alabama's Driver's License
-Alabama Nondriver ID
-Alabama Photo Voter ID Card
-State Issued ID (Alabama or any other state)
-Federal issued ID
-US passport
-Employee ID from Federal Government, State of Alabama, County, Municipality, Board or other entity of this state
-Student or employee ID from a public or private college or university in the State of Alabama
-Student or employee ID issued by a state institution of higher learning in any other state
-Military ID
-Tribal ID

Once you apply for the ID, you will be given a paper copy. A hard copy will be mailed to you within two weeks. You can use the paper copy to vote.

If you don't have a valid photo ID when you arrive at the polls, you will still be allowed to vote. For your ballot to be counted, you have to submit a valid ID by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6.
You can vote a regular ballot if two election officials sign a sworn affidavit validating your identity.
