Bob Syke's Barbecue & Blues Festival

Posted: Updated:

Food, music and fun was just the tip of the iceberg at the 5th Annual  Bob Sykes Barbecue and Blues Festival in Bessemer.  Thousands of people came out to Debardeleben Park on Saturday to enjoy the festivities.
Blues acts hit the stage and were greeted by a large crowd.  The youngest daughter of blues legend, B.B. King showed them it's all in the genes. Singer, Claudette King, kept the crowd swaying.
Bessemer also presented a world known self taught artist, Thorton Dial, with a key to the city.
"This festival came from an idea to promote the city of Bessemer which has been my home for 40 years. I had everything in place, I had food, good connections.. It was a matter of just taking all the ingredients.", said Festival organizer Van Sykes.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Bessemer Education Enhancement Fund.
