BIRMINGHAM - AL - After being born with Spina-Bifida, Lindsey Wilson was told by many doctors she would never see her high school graduation. But Thursday night, Wilson proved that science only goes so far.

Wilson is now a 2014 graduate of Hewitt-Trussville High School. The 20 year old received her official diploma Thursday night inside the walls of Children's of Alabama. Because of complications, she was unable to walk with the rest of her classmates. But her family witnessed the special ceremony, cap and gown included.

Lindsey told ABC 33/40 she made it through obstacles by staying positive. At the end of the ceremony, Lindsey made it a point to thank her teacher, Carrie Jones, for being a great inspiration. Jones was a top three finalist for the Alabama Teacher of the Year 2014-2015. As for Lindsey, she says her plan now is to go to college and get a job!

Wilson's family was told they should not expect her to live past her teens. To learn more about Spina-Bifida and how you can help fund research, go to SpinaBifidaAssociation.org.
