Late Birmingham councilwoman to be remembered at library reopening

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM - AL - The Inglenook Library will reopen Thursday thanks to bond money secured by the late Council President Maxine Herring Parker. The library will be dedicated to her.

The library closed last fall for months of renovations. The work includes upgrades to make it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, new heating and air systems, additional parking, and an updated computer system. It was paid for by a 405 thousand dollar bond.

Parker passed away after renovations began November 12, 2013. Her son now represents her district. He will be at the 8:30 a.m. ceremony for an unveiling of a plaque in his mother's memory.
