JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. -- A convicted sex offender was arrested this week for allegedly exposing himself outside a Pinson grocery store earlier this month, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

John Allen Racine, 41, is charged with indecent exposure and violation of the Sex Offender Act. He was arrested Wednesday at his home in the 5700 block of Walnut Grove Road in Pinson.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies received reports of a man exposing himself to people in the parking lot of a grocery store on May 2. Three days later, the suspect was seen inside the grocery store with a small child, prompting store managers to take photographs of the man, his car, and his license plate. The store turned over the pictures to detectives, who then used the photos to obtain vehicle registration information. Records showed that the vehicle was owned by a woman who listed the same home address as Racine, who was registered as a sex offender for a 2008 conviction in Florida for lewd exhibition with a 12-year-old boy.

Authorities positively identified Racine as the indecent exposure suspect and arrests warrants were issued.

Racine is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $21,000.
