BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A security guard at a Birmingham strip club was shot and killed early Saturday morning after failing to comply with the demands of an off-duty police officer.

According to Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards, the incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. outside the Foxx Trap Gentleman's Club on 2nd Avenue North. Two security guards were involved in an altercation before one of the men pulled a gun, firing several shots at the other guard. An off-duty cop who was working at the club confronted the gunman, ordering him to drop his weapon. The guard refused to comply with his demands, prompting the officer to shoot the man several times.

The guard who was shot by the off-duty cop was pronounced dead at the scene while the other guard wounded in the first shooting incident was taken to an area hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

Foxx Trap, which recently had its business license revoked by city council due to numerous complaints of violence at the club, remained open  after being granted a temporary restraining order from a Jefferson County judge.
