The Alabama Emergency Management Agency's Emergency Operations Center was activated at level 1 Tuesday.  This is the state's highest level of activation for a disaster.

Communications Director Jennifer Ardis said Gov. Robert Bentley received a briefing Tuesday morning from both the National Weather Service and the Alabama EMA.  Bentley is closely monitoring the weather, as another round of severe storms is expected Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.  Tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail and flash flooding are all possible.

Eighteen counties reported damage from Monday's storms to the Alabama EMA.  The most significant damage is in Jefferson and Limestone counties.   A state of emergency is in effect for all 67 counties.  Bentley said more than 200 state employees are working the disaster, and that number is expected to increase as the day goes on.

Three deaths were reported to the EMA as a result of the storms.  University of Alabama swimmer John Servati, 21, of Tupelo, Miss., was taking shelter in the basement of a home when a retaining wall collapsed about 10:30 p.m. Monday. He was pronounced dead at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Two people were killed in Limestone County when their mobile home was destroyed just after 5p.m. in the Coxey community, about 10 miles west of Athens on U.S. 72.  A spokeswoman at Athens-Limestone Hospital said another 17 people were treated at the hospital for storm injuries.  Two were admitted.
