Winston County prepares for severe weather threat

Posted: Updated:
Communities in Winston County are making preparations for severe weather expected Tuesday night.

Winston County Emergency Management Agency Director James Burnett tells ABC 33/40 that the 911 Center has a list of community safe rooms. He also says firefighters in Double Springs are working to prepare to mark homes and properties that may sustain damage. He also says the generator at the County Jail is currently inoperable, so the County Commission is looking to rent one. At the same time, some city leaders are talking with companies to get additional generators for areas that may experience power outages because of storms.

The Haleyville Police Department tells ABC 33/40 officers are at several community safe centers making preparations for citizens.

Winston County is under a tornado watch until 9 p.m.

List of addresses in Haleyville for storm safe rooms:
911 21st Street
721 County Road 51
1206 10th Avenue
930 4th Avenue
2324 14th Avenue
