Birmingham library set to distribute free books and jump ropes

Posted: Updated:
The City of Birmingham and the Birmingham Public Library want to help people "jump" into fitness and reading this spring by distributing free jump ropes and books on Wednesday, April 23 at the Fitness Center North, 412 Abraham Woods Blvd.

The move is part of a national campaign known as World Book Night, which is designed to spread the joy of reading by providing free paperback books to light readers. Books will be distributed from 12 to 12:30 p.m. at the fitness center.

The library plans to combine health with its book distribution. Not only will free jump ropes be given at the center, but also fruit and fitness materials.
Copies of Terry McMillan's New York Times Bestseller "Waiting to Exhale'' and Cheryl Strayed's New York Times Best Seller "Wild.''  will be handed out, and jump ropes will be given to the first 20 people.  Books will be available while they last.

By the time World Book Night ends, organizers predict that more than half a million people will have received free books across America on April 23, which just happens to be William Shakespeare's birthday.
