Parents and students panic at Center Point Elementary after learning a loaded 22-caliber revolver was found inside a classroom Thursday.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says two students were suspended, including a 7-year-old child, who brought the gun,and another student who held it. Investigators say the child's grandfather owns the gun.

The Sheriff's Office says no one was hurt. A teacher grabbed the gun immediately and notified the school's principal and resource officer.

Debra Thomas, a grandmother of a child at the school, cried when she learned about the incident.

"We always hear about children getting killed at school, children getting cut at school. It's almost like you can't send your child to school," Thomas says.

Choicey Tucker is a mother of an 8-year-old student, who says the loaded gun was pointed in his face. Authorities say they're continuing to investigate that parents' claims and the entire ordeal.

A school spokesperson says administrators will look into increased security measures at the school, which opened this week.
