Rosters for golf's Palmer Cup loaded with Birmingham talent

Posted: Updated:

This summer's Palmer Cup will have some Alabama feel.

Crimson Tide golfers Robby Shelton and Trey Mullinax, UAB's Paul Dunne and former Mountain Brook Spartan Stewart Jolly will be a part of what could be considered the college version of the Ryder Cup.

The University of Alabama placed multiple players on the United States roster for the second straight year.

The rosters for Team USA and Team Europe will each carry 10 collegiate golfers. The teams are chosen based by ranking, committee and coaches.

The Tide's Shelton was one of six U.S. players chosen by the Palmer Cup Ranking system. Mullinax was a committee pick and Jolly, who now plays at LSU, was chosen by U.S. coach Steve Desimone.

Dunne, who is originally from Ireland, was a committee pick to play for the European squad.

The Palmer Cup will be played June 26-28 in Surrey, England.
