Judge delays trial over Victoryland casino raid

Posted: Updated:

A judge has delayed a trial over whether the state government can keep the cash and destroy the gambling machines seized in a raid of VictoryLand casino in Macon County. Circuit Judge William Shashy had scheduled the non-jury trial for June 3 in Montgomery, but he delayed it until June 23 at the request of defense attorneys who wanted more time to prepare.

State Attorney General Luther Strange raided the casino in February 2013 and seized 1,615 gambling machines and more than $223,000 in cash. The trial is also expected to include gambling experts testifying about whether the machines are legal.
