Bomb threat reported in downtown Montevallo (Update)

Update:

The University of Montevallo said around 8:30 p.m. that the bomb threat made against the city earlier in the night has been resolved without injury, and the downtown area has been deemed safe again.

Police evacuated six blocks of downtown Montevallo to investigate the threat. The operation lasted two hours and concluded at 8 p.m. after no bombs or explosive devices were located.

Initial report:

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- A bomb threat has been reported in downtown Montevallo Wednesday night, forcing authorities to evacuate several of the city's downtown blocks while they investigate.

The threat was made around 7 p.m., and the University of Montevallo turned to Twitter to urge all faculty, staff and students to avoid the downtown area until further notice. Police have taped off six blocks of the campus for precautionary reasons.

It is unknown at this time if police have any suspects in custody.

    A new survey indicates that a majority of parents in the United States with children in public school systems would rate the quality of their children's schools as above average. Among those polled, 66 percent of parents would rate the quality of their child's school as above average or excellent. However, looking deeper in the demographics shows that minority parents are more likely to believe their children's school is average or worse.The study was released by Vox Populi Polling.More >>
