Missing Fayetteville woman found dead in the Talladega National Forest

Talladega County sheriff's investigators found the body of Angela Owings Whitworth, the 51-year-old Fayetteville woman who went missing earlier this week, in a wooded area of the Talladega National Forest near Sylacauga on Friday, authorities confirmed to ABC 33/40.

Whitworth went missing Tuesday after leaving her home to pick up transcripts from B.B. Comer High School. After she never made it to the school, a ground and air search was launched. Her van was found in some woods off of Wiregrass Road in Sylacauga, and her body was later discovered a short distance away from the vehicle.

Whitworth's body has been sent to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine her official cause of death.

According to the sheriff's office, no foul play is expected.
