Former UAB coach Mike Davis will not leave for Jacksonville job

Posted: Updated:

Jacksonville University have hired Tony Jasick to be it's new basketball coach.

Former UAB coach Mike Davis was rumored to be the front runner for the JU job earlier this week before the school offered the position to Jasick, who spent the last three years as the head coach of Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.

The Houston Defender newspaper reported last weekend that there was a deal in place to make Davis the new coach at Jacksonville.

Davis has been the head coach at Texas Southern the last two years and led the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament this past season. He recently signed a two year contract extension to stay at TSU through the 2017-18 season.

Davis was the basketball coach at UAB from 2006-2012 and led the Blazers to two appearances in the NIT and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2011.

Jasick was named the national mid-major Coach of the Year last season after IPFW won 25 games, including the program's first postseason victory. The Mastodons beat Akron in the first round of the Collegeinsider.com Tournament.

Jasick is expected to be introduced as Jacksonville's new head basketball coach on Thursday.
