Posted: Updated:

Chuck Person is returning to Auburn.

The former star player will join Bruce Pearl's staff as an assistant coach.

"This is the only college job I would have taken," Person said at his introductory press conference. "This is my home."

Person averaged 18.3 point and 7.5 rebounds at Auburn in the mid-80s and helped the Tigers to an SEC Conference title in 1985 and to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament in 1986.

The Indiana Pacers drafted Person with the fourth overall pick in 1986.

Person averaged 14.7 points per game throughout his 13 year NBA career.

He was hired by the LA Lakers to be an assistant in 2009. He worked on the staff for four years and spent last season as a coach in Korea.

Person is the fourth addition of Pearl's staff. Tony Jones is an assistant, Steven Pearl will serve at the strength and conditioning coach, and Todd Golden is the Director of Basketball Operations.
