CENTER POINT - AL -

Jefferson County deputies are investigating a fatal shooting. The dispute happened Saturday evening at Parkway Villa Apartments in the 100 block of 14th Ave NE in Center Point.

When deputies and Center Point paramedics arrived, they found 42-year-old Ricky Jones outside  an apartment with gunshot wounds. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Deputies say Jones arrived home to find his wife's cousin doing laundry. Jones did not want the cousin there and began yelling, demanding him to leave. Jones' wife disagreed and allowed her cousin to remain until he was done washing clothes. Jones was infuriated and went outside to vandalize the cousin's vehicle. When the cousin went outside to stop Jones from kicking the vehicle, a physical fight ensued. Jones went into his pocket and stabbed the cousin in his neck with an object. The cousin fled. Jones chased him and tried to stab him again. That's when the cousin pulled a gun and shot Jones.

The cousin, a 25-year old male, was taken into custody at the scene for questioning and was released.

There have been no charges. The case will be presented to Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.
