Etowah County caretaker arrested for stealing money from elderly person

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. -- An Attalla woman is currently behind bars after she allegedly stole over $2,500 from an elderly person that was in her care, the Etowah County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

Jennifer Nicole Rosson, 38, was arrested on March 25 and charged with one county of financial exploitation of an elderly person, which is a Class B felony in Alabama. She remains in the county detention center, where she is being held on a $5,000 property bond.

According to a release, Rosson transferred money from the victim's savings account into a checking account, allowing her access to make cash withdrawals.

The felony charge against Rosson comes under the Protecting Alabama's Elders Act, which went into effect in August 2013.
