New municipal complex in Sylvan Springs

Posted: Updated:

A project in the making for several years is now a reality in the town of Sylvan Springs.

Lawmakers and dignitaries gathered for a special ribbon cutting to lead the town into the future.

A new identity for a town of 15-hundred people.

Mayor Stevan Parsons says "To see it become a reality is a real exciting day."

An open house Sunday for the new Sylvan Springs Municipal Complex.

It's a facility Parsons says the town needed desperately. "Our other facilities were old and worn."

The town's services can now be found on Rock Creek Road.

A three year project, now ready to position the town for future growth.

Congressman Spencer Bachus says, "They know each other, work together and been good stewards of their money and have created a wonderful community here."

People toured the new complex which includes many things.

In the new town hall, you'll find council chambers, offices and a sheriff's substation. There's also a new fire station that can house 4 trucks.

Fire Chief, Rusty Johnson, says "It's modernized, with a drive through raise where the guys don't have to back up anymore, have Co2 removal system for when engines crank."

Mayor Parsons says with the council's approval, Sylvan Springs went after private funding. Congressman Bachus praised that effort. "They did it all on their own, not a dime from the county, state or federal government, which is a good example of the right way to do things."

Town leaders hope the new facility will ultimately bring more attention to the area.

Construction took around 2 years to complete. The mayor told us Sylvan Springs is one of the areas considering letting residents re-new car tags at the town hall.
