UAB wants chance to host C-USA postseason tournaments

UAB wants to be players in the postseason game.

Blazers athletic director Brian Mackin told AL.com that the school has submitted proposals to bring the Conference USA basketball and baseball tournaments to Birmingham.

Mackin said the city is being evaluated to host the postseason.

"We see this as an opportunity for showcasing Birmingham and money being generated for the city and UAB," Mackin told AL.com.

Last months C-USA basketball tournament was held in El Paso, Texas and Mackin says the event generated $4 million dollars in economic benefits.

Mackin's idea is to put the conference baseball tournament at Regions Field, which is home of the Birmingham Barons so UAB and C-USA would have to work around the minor league teams schedule.

Mackin's plan for the conference basketball tournament is to put it at Bartow Arena on the UAB campus. He also believes that Birmingham's BJCC Arena and Bill Harris Arena could host some of the games if necessary.

UAB is not the only league school interested in hosting the Conference USA postseason. Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss are on record saying they'll bid on the tournaments.
