DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. -- An Ider woman has been charged in connection with two residential burglaries in which medications were stolen, DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Friday.

Sheila Keith Westbrooks, 45, is charged with trespassing, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, two counts of second-degree theft of property and two counts of third-degree burglary. She is currently being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center while she awaits a bond hearing.

According to Harris, Westbrooks was taken into custody for questioning after concerned citizens in the Ider community reported her suspicious behavior. Investigators later found her in possession of evidence linking her to the burglaries.

"The people in this area were observant and quickly notified the Ider police department when they saw suspicious activity," Harris said. "Evidence recovered at the scene and in the possession of the suspect would indicate we have the person responsible for these burglaries. We really appreciate the neighbors and Ider police department responding so quickly."
