New research shows that people who are single, divorced or widowed are more likely to suffer any type of heart or blood vessel problem than people who are married.
Married people had a five percent lower risk of any cardiovascular disease compared to singles.
Widowed people had a three percent greater risk and divorced people, a five percent greater risk.
New York University researchers studied more than 3.5 million Americans.
They say, this was true at any age, for women as well as for men, and regardless of other heart disease risk factors they had such as high cholesterol or diabetes.
