EXCLUSIVE: Security more than doubles at Birmingham's Carver High

Posted: Updated:

ABC 33/40 has exclusively learned, after a recent rash of fights, security has more than doubled at Birmingham's Carver High School.

The school has two school resource officers assigned each day, but now a total of 5 school resource officers and Birmingham City security staff patrol the campus.

About two weeks ago, ABC 33/40 first reported a parent-involved fight at the school. That was the school's fourth fight in one week. Most of the fights involved freshman girls and started from disagreements on Facebook, police say.

Carver High School Principal Charles Willis tells ABC 33/40's Marissa Mitchell that the school has put a variety of steps in place to handle behavioral issues.

-More enhanced security before, during and after school
-Some students involved in fights have been suspended and are going through disciplinary hearings.
-Educators met with the Freshman class to discuss conflict resolution.
- On April 10, a motivation team will come to the school to meet with teachers and students
