Mock funeral shows teens reality of making bad decisions

Birmingham , AL -

Sunday was the call to end violence as dozens of teens and community members follow in a multi-organizational move to stop violence amongst the youth.

A coffin led the motorcade and made its way inside Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church representing death for the mock funeral. So far this year, crime has gone down but it's not stopping members of S.T.R.A.P. to reach out to other teens in a shocking and captivating way.

Donald Shepherd is the founder of S.T.R.A.P. and says he's made bad choices in his life as a young adult that led him to fifteen years in prison. That's why he wants to fight to end violence by any means necessary.

"Young people are thirsty for the truth. They want to hear the truth. They don't want to hear it any kind of way. They want to feel the truth. They don't want you to ridicule them at the same time. They want to know which way to go, but they don't want you to talk about them while they're doing it. We got to encourage them to continue, S.T.R.A.P. is a blessing," says Shepherd.
