FAIRFIELD, Ala. -- Fairfield police made one of its biggest heroin busts in recent years Thursday morning after officers found a suspected drug dealer passed out behind the wheel of his car, Chief Leon Davis said.

According to a release, police responded to a report of a man asleep in his car at the intersection of EJ Oliver Boulevard around 6:10 a.m. Upon arriving, officers found 27-year-old Christopher Taylor sleeping in the driver seat of his Cadillac, which was still running and in drive. Officers were able to put the car in park and turn off the engine before waking Taylor.

Once awake, Taylor exited the vehicle and began fighting with the officers. The skirmish with police didn't last long as officers were able to subdue Taylor and take him into custody. One officer sustained minor cuts to his knee during the arrest.

Following a search of the vehicle, police found approximately four ounces of heroin worth around $26,000 and $1,500 worth of cocaine. An assorted variety of pills were also recovered from the car.

Taylor was booked into the city jail on charges of trafficking heroin, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He has since been transferred to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held on bonds totaling $516,000.
