House fire breaks out as Birmingham police investigate shooting near Legion Field

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Shortly after Birmingham police arrived at a home near Legion Field to investigate a report of a shooting Tuesday evening, a large fire broke out at a home down the street, sending local firefighters into action.

The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. in the 200 bock of Terrace North and officers arrived to find one person suffering from a gunshot wound. The suspect fled the scene but was captured a few blocks away.

The victim's condition is unknown at this time.

Shortly after an ABC 33/40 News crew showed up at the shooting location, a large plume of thick, dark smoke could be seen down the street, billowing from a home. Details of the fire are limited at this time as firefighters continue work to extinguish the blaze.
