Latest statement from The Horizons School on tragic death of student

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The executive director of The Horizons School in Birmingham's South side has released another statement regarding the tragic death of a student last week.

Dr. Jade K. Carter said there will not be a memorial service in town for Pouneh Bahri, who died after being hit by a MAX DART trolley while crossing 20th Street South on March 4. The school's decision to not have a service was made at the request of the victim's family.

Below is the full statement from Carter.

"As you know, The Horizons School, including its students and their families, faculty and staff are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students last week in a tragic accident. Pouneh Bahri lives on inside each of us here at The Horizons School. Her legacy is determination, courage, a positive attitude and the importance of warm friendships.

"Respectfully following the wishes of her family, there will be no memorial service for Pouneh in Birmingham, AL.

"Everyone at The Horizons School would like to express gratitude and appreciation for the support and kindness shown to us by so many during this time of grief."
