Rolando McClain could be eyeing NFL comeback

Posted: Updated:

Rolando McClain's retirement from the NFL could be temporary.

The former Alabama linebacker, who abruptly announced his retirement from the league last spring, reportedly has told people close to him that he plans to return to the NFL in 2014.

The Carroll County (Md.) Times reported the story. The Baltimore Ravens still hold McClain's NFL rights.

McClain won the Butkus Award, given to college football's top linebacker, in his final season at Alabama in 2009.

He was the eighth overall selection by the Oakland Raiders in the 2010 NFL Draft.

McClain was cut after three seasons and signed a one year deal with Baltimore before deciding to walk away from the game last May at the age of 23.

McClain offered more details about his decision to retire and emotions that contributed to three arrests during his short NFL career to ESPN the Magazine.

"I don't know if I'm ready, man, why I was so angry," McClain told ESPN. " I don't know if I'm ready to know what triggers my anger. I just feel like I figured out on my own how to stay calm, how to enjoy life, how to be happy. Eventually, I might find the source of the problem, get over it."

He moved to Tuscaloosa last summer so he could continue to work toward his degree at Alabama and work out with the football program.
