Fraternity bans pledging for all chapters, colonies

TUSCALOOSA - AL -

A fraternity founded at the University of Alabama wants to provide the "True Gentleman Experience." It bans pledging immediately.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon will continue recruiting new members and offering bids. However, they will immediately become collegiate members. The pledge educator will now be called new member educator.

According to a statement from national headquarters, the Supreme Council wants to "eliminate a class structure between our new members and our active members." It hopes to get the fraternity back to the founders' intent of treating all members equally and fairly. The council noted pledging didn't start until after World War II.

The policy will apply to all chapters and colonies.
