Study: Infant sound machines damage hearing

Posted: Updated:

A warning is out for parents using noise machines to help their babies sleep.  A new study says some of them may be too loud, increasing an infant's risk for hearing loss.

Researchers say some noise machines exceed safe noise levels for adults, let alone infants.  The study did not identify any specific models.

The authors recommended placing the machines as far away as possible from the infant, and that they only be played for a short time at low volume.

The study is published in the journal Pediatrics.
