Cullman county deputies arrest suspect at gunpoint in fatal shooting

Posted: Updated:

The search for a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting of a 32 year old woman ended in the Mulberry river. Cullman county deputies responding to a call found the woman in her home around 1 PM this afternoon suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. The unidentified woman was taken to CRMC but later airlifted to a Huntsville hospital where she later died. Sheriff Mike Rainey says the suspect fled the scene when deputies arrived. He was chased down after being spotted by officers in a helicopter. The 33 year old was taken into custody after being pulled from the Mulberry river. He reportedly had taken an overdose of drugs and is hospitalized. Sheriff Rainey says he will probably be formally charged tomorrow.
