Alabama Power is preparing for possible outages

Posted: Updated:

As winter weather rolls into our area, Alabama Power says the company is ready.  Employees from south Alabama are up in central and north Alabama.  Alabama Power spokesperson Ike Pigott says crews are at full capacity and standing by to restore any outages.

The power company representatives say icy weather can be the most dangerous.  "When you have ice, freezing rain, the wintry mix; it sticks to the power lines pulls things down and sticks to trees and makes them heavy and makes them fall down across lines," said Pigott.  That ice may also make it difficult to get truck to the areas to repair lines.

Crews that were on weather duty in Pennsylvania are now back in state.  Pigott says they arrived in time enough to become well-rested and ready to work in this weather event.

If you are an Alabama Power customer, you can report an outage by calling 800-888-2726.  Outages can also be reported at  Representatives say the website has been optimized for smartphones, to easily navigate and report lapses in power.
