Emergency shelters around central Alabama are expected to see a boost in people looking for a warm place over the next few days.  The Birmingham Salvation Army is now helping anyone needing shelter from the cold.  The Salvation Army will offer free food and shelter to anyone needing it.

A warming shelter is open in Shelby County at 108 Plaza Circle in Alabaster.  Doors opened at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday and it will remain open until 9:00 p.m.  The same hours will follow Wednesday and Thursday if needed.  Coffee is available for 24 hours, for any emergency personnel.  Lunch will be made available for anyone who needs it at 11:30 a.m.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

The Salvation Army will also assist the warming station located at Boutwell in downtown Birmingham with coffee, snacks, and blankets.  Personnel is also located at the EMA offices in Jefferson County and in Clanton.
