CLANTON, Ala. -- Clanton Middle School was placed on temporary lockdown Friday morning after a student was found with a suspicious, explosive device that was later determined to be homemade fireworks, authorities told ABC 33/40.

After an initial report of a possible weapon being reported on campus, school officials decided to go on lockdown while Clanton police investigated. Officers later discovered that a student brought a small "Play-Doh" container housing gun powder and BBs with a fuse for ignition. It has since been safely recovered, allowing the lockdown to be lifted and classes to resume as normal.

Police are continuing to investigate why the student, who remains in custody, was in possession of the device at school.

No one was injured in the incident.

ABC 33/40 will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information is made available.
