Atlanta, GA -

The FBI, Atlanta Police and the Atlanta Fire Dept. are investigating what caused a fire that severely burned a Georgia Tech graduate student inside an apartment in midtown Atlanta.

Firefighters responded to the fire call in the 200 block of 10th Street around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.  Upon arrival, investigators found a man with severe burns to his chest, arms, and hands.

The FBI was called in by Atlanta Police after it was discovered that a liquid placed in a bottle caused an explosion.  What the liquid was and what caused it to explode is under investigation.

FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett tells Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB-TV that the blaze involved what appears to be a "possible incendiary device."

Georgia Tech officials would not release the students name pending notification of the family.
