EPA announces staging site, date for Birmingham cleanup

Posted: Updated:

The Environmental Protection Agency says the old Carver High School will serve as a staging area for pollution cleanup in north Birmingham beginning February 17.

The EPA is targeting more than 50 properties in the Collegeville,  Harriman Park and Fairmont neighborhoods. People who live in the area can expect to see increased truck traffic during the cleanup, which is scheduled to last through September.

One neighborhood leader welcomes the activity.

"Without the EPA, we would not be in the position that we are in now we would still be sitting around the table talking," Collegeville neighborhood Vivian Starks.

If you have questions regarding the EPA cleanup, call the agency's community coordinator Stephanie Brown at (205) 326-8640.
