Chilton County, AL -

The crippling winter storm of 2014 hit a lot closer to home Thursday as the Alabama Department of Corrections lost one of our own.

"Our hearts are very heavy.  We lost a veteran correctional officer but more importantly- a caring husband and father," said Corrections Commissioner Kim Thomas. "Officer Desi Patterson left his home in hazardous conditions to protect and serve our State. His sense of duty is indicative of all DOC employees, and it greatly saddens me to see such professionalism rewarded with loss."

Officer Desi Arnez Patterson died in route to work from Montgomery to the Bibb Correctional Facility in Brent, Alabama.  The accident occurred on Hwy 82 W in Chilton County.

Officer Patterson began his career with the Department of Corrections on August 1, 1998.  He leaves behind his wife, Shanetha, and sons, Quinton and Jalen.  He was 43 years old
