JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. -- Jefferson County sheriff's deputies are searching for an elderly woman who went missing Friday night.

Lula Hazzard Skanes, a 66-year-old who suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's, was reported missing around 8:30 p.m. by her daughter. Skanes was last seen around 3:30 p.m. at the family's home in the 1100 block of Oak Creek Trail.

Skanes son, Michael Skanes, says "It's scary because we don't know if somebody just picked her up, and we have a lot of weird people out here in this world."

Skanes, who is around 5-foot-1 and 120 pounds, is believed to be carrying a large gym bag. A description of her clothing wasn't available.

Deputies continued their search for the woman Saturday with the assistance of a K9 unit.
