BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A 7-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital late Friday morning after falling from a 5th-floor balcony of a Birmingham condo, ABC 33/40 has learned.

Fire and rescue crews were called to the Regency Crown Condominiums in the 1200 block of Beacon Parkway East around 10:30 a.m. Upon arriving, emergency workers found the boy unresponsive before transporting the victim to Children's of Alabama Hospital.

According to Herald Stewart, a condo board of directors' member, the boy was found on the ground shortly after the fall by a man who works at the complex. Stewart said the victim and his family have lived there for "a couple of years" and described the boy as "happy-go-lucky."

The condition of the child hasn't been released. An investigation into how the boy fell remains ongoing, according to Birmingham police.

Reporter Candace Sweat is on the scene and we will provide updates as more information is made available.

According to its website, Regency Crown Condominiums is a 74-unit, privately-owned facility located atop Red Mountain.
