Jacksonville State athletics director Warren Koegel released a statement Tuesday revealing the resignation of head football coach Bill Clark, who is expected to be named the new coach at UAB.

"Coach Bill Clark informed me this afternoon that he has accepted another job," Koegel said. "I want to thank Coach Clark for the last 13 months of service to Jacksonville State University as our head football coach, and all the things the team was able to accomplish under his leadership."

Clark, who was hired at JSU a little over one year ago, will replace former Blazers head coach Garrick McGee, who left after only two seasons at UAB to join Bobby Petrino's staff at Louisville as the offensive coordinator.

Prior to his one-year stint with the Gamecocks, the 45-year-old Clark spent fives seasons as the defensive coordinator under Joey Jones at South Alabama, a job he accepted after a nine-year run as the head coach at Prattville High School. UAB athletics director Brian Mackin is expected to officially introduce Clark as the new head coach at a 3:30 p.m. news conference Wednesday.

JSU President Dr. William A. Meehan expressed support and gratitude for the school's outgoing coach, who led the Gamecocks to the third round of the FCS playoffs in 2013.

"We're very proud for Bill and the success that he had at Jacksonville State," Meehan said in a release. "He is a JSU grad and we are excited about his personal success and we are grateful for the success he brought to the Gamecocks this year."

Koegel said he will make a "quick decision" in finding Clark's replacement at JSU. A team meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m.
